Wessex League Cross-Country
Race 5
took place at Swindon on the 9th February. The WAC teams were
blighted with illness and injury this time, which seriously depleted our
numbers. Unfortunately we lost a few runners who had previously been
ever-presents. As you know, all those team members who run in all the league
race will be awarded a fidelity award. We are hoping to have an end of season
presentation, details of which are yet to be confirmed, but it is hoped that
this might take place at Christchurch Ski Centre. Full details of this will be
announced once we have the results from the final race in Dorchester. Those
still on course for fidelity awards are Neil Hopkinson, Daryl Davies, Ian
Lyster, Amanda Bailey and Frank Bailey (who has run in all the under-11 races which
do not have recorded results).
The
results for the races were as follows:
Seniors male Seniors
female
28th Matt Hopkins 34.58 16th
Jill Harsent 25.55
40th Neil Hopkinson 37.11 18th Lee Longmore
27.54
44th Ian Kennedy 39.18 23rd
Tilaye Bailey 29.12
Under 17 male Under
17 female
7th Daryl Davies 19.55
12th Ian Lyster 26.01
Under 15 male Under
15 female
9th Tim Shakespeare 16.38 2nd Amanda Bailey 9.54
Just 10 runners in all. The ladies team finished 6th in
the team rankings. Amanda continues to show impressive form, while the under-17
boys had their best ever race finishing 3rd team. Tim also ran well
but unfortunately we failed to field a complete under-15 boys team (the first
time this happened). The mens team finished 12th. It was an
enjoyable course with some serious mud in places and quite a steep climb. Well
done to all of you.
South of England Athletics Association Cross
Country Championships, Bicton, Devon 25th January 2003
The under-15 boys team ran well at Bicton where they
raced against the best cross-country runners in the south of England. The team finished
13th overall. We had great weather and it was a good course. Their
times were as follows:
90th Tom Rushton 15.32
98th Daryl Davies 15:42
112th Tim Shakespeare 16.13
134th Joe Clark 17.45
The date for the remaining race in the series is 9th
March at Dorchester. It is a fairly local race for us, so lets finish the
season with a flourish and a big turnout.
